Joe Cashman grew up on the other side of these hedges.
Born in 1968, three blocks off Amestoy. His mother's Frigidaire started clanking the summer he turned eleven, and by the time his dad got home from work, young Joe had the compressor apart on the back-porch concrete — and, somehow, back together.
He apprenticed under a certified Sub-Zero tech out of a Van Nuys shop through the late '90s, got his own EPA 608 ticket in 2001, and spent seven years as the lead in-warranty technician for a Valley-wide service chain before he'd had enough of the call-center model. In 2008 he took out a small-business loan, leased the narrow storefront on Ventura between Reseda and Wilbur, and hung the crest himself.
Joe still answers the shop phone before noon, still drives the lead van, and still keeps his first Craftsman socket set — the one he used on his mother's Frigidaire — in the top drawer of the counter. If you book today, there is an excellent chance he's the one who shows up.
